Free Radicals are running around in your body constantly. They are the by-products of the many poisons that attack the body daily, including: smoking anything, eating foods that are smoked, all different kinds of preservatives that are eaten daily, several types of metal cookware except stainless steel, including old iron cookware, and also the newer “coated” non-stick types of cookware. They all give off molecules of metals that are strange to the system. Other sources of free radicals include many artificial colorings, smog, and exposure to the sun or tanning booths. As you can see, they come from all over.
To combat (or scavenge) free radicals there are compounds known as antioxidants. There are tons of vitamins and other foods that claim they contain “antioxidants”. However, to date, the highest concentration of antioxidants of any known natural fruit comes from the Acai Berry. Studies using the ORAC comparison to other fruits and vegetables have proven this.
