What is The Best Way To Get a Job with a DUI on Your Record?

Unless you’re looking for a driving job it probably won’t affect you that much, except according to the recency of the DUI and the sensitive nature of the job. When filling out an application, make sure to write that down under the Convictions section. If it only  requires to report any felonies, no need to report it.  However, if it asks for misdemeanors, you should be honest or it may come back and bite you!. Now, once they go over the application with you, make sure to bring it up, be sincere about what happened and how you learned your lesson. Many employers will see that you’re an honest person and may simply leave it at that.  Never give up and don’t let it get you down!

Well I am finding very difficult to get a job in California. Today, I just got notified that I had been disqualified as a candidate for a job because of the DUI. I was scheduled for a third and final interview tomorrow but the companies VP of HR called from Indianna and said they didn’t want to move forward on account of it. I was honest with them up front about it and this job is not a driving job. So I am very dissappointed and disheartened. I know it was a big mistake to get in a car and drive drunk, but the penalty is HUGE.

It doesn’t matter if your a Saint right now - just keeping a job is tough, no less getting a new one. Like in your case, the DUI just tipped the scale - it probably wouldn’t have during any other job market. It can be absolutely unfair but the “system” is set up to group all DUI’s, no matter the scenario, into the black hole of no-goods with no questions asked and not a spec of intelligence available to sort out the exceptions. If you’re desperate for a job, you may consider finding one that you don’t need for a reference from in the future and omit the DUI on your application. That way, if you do get tossed from that job later on because of that - no big loss.
